The  "DOOR"

The DeKalb Open Opportunity for Recovery aka The "DOOR” is a Recovery Community Organization that utilizes a peer  recovery support services (PRSS) approach to support individuals seeking recovery, in recovery, and who have long-term recovery. We have an array of support services that can be useful for everyone in recovery. These services includes: job readiness, computer literacy, adult literacy, anger management, healthy relationships, addiction education, financial literacy, relapse prevention, and life skills. In addition, we also have gender specific support groups and host a variety of 12 step meetings daily at noon and again in the evenings.

OUR  MISSION

The "DOOR" utilizes Peer Based Recovery Services to empower individuals for sustained long term recovery and the promotion of the recovery movement for the purposes of eliminating stigma, stereotyping and other barriers through advocacy, recovery messaging and by sharing our lived experiences. Critical to our mission is the development of leaders, assessments of needs, strengths, and resources. We utilize a concentrated advocacy technique that educates the public, policy makers, service providers and supporters thus allowing us to represent recovery positively and speak as one unified voice.

HISTORY

The DeKalb Open Opportunities for Recovery The "DOOR" is a program of STAND, Inc.,   a Georgia based organization that was established in 1999 by Charles Sperling. Headquartered in DeKalb County, it is recognized as one of metropolitan Atlanta’s leading non-profit organizations focusing on comprehensive services for reentry, HIV/AIDS, and substance abuse intervention and prevention and recovery support services.

With the support of our partners, The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) and The Georgia Council on Substance Abuse (GCSA) who are leading advocates in the recovery movement in the state of Georgia and throughout , we've been able to open a Recovery Community Organization known as The "DOOR"

In July 2015, The "DOOR" became a reality. After months of strategic planning, development and communication and input from persons served.  The "DOOR"  held its grand opening on Friday February 26, 2016 with support from our funders, community partners, other service providers and local government officials.
